Welcome, Vendors!


Thank you for your interest in becoming a part of the Sturgis Gathering Market! Whether you’re a farmer, gardener, baker, artist, or food maker, we welcome you to join our growing community of local producers and makers.

The Sturgis Market welcomes a wide variety of local vendors. All vendors must apply and be approved by the market organizers before participating.

Market Location


The Sturgis Gathering Market is located at the Massa Berry Building at 890 Lazelle Street in Sturgis, SD. This is the same location as the BrewBerry Bistro.

Summer Season (May-September)

  • The market is held outdoors in the parking lot.
  • If the weather is bad, the market will be held indoors, inside the Massa Berry Building.

Winter Season (October - April)

  • The market is held indoors, inside the Massa Berry Building.

Market Schedule


Summer Season (May)

  • The market will be held every Friday from 3 pm to 6 pm.

Summer Season (June-September)

  • The market will be held every Friday from 4 pm to 7 pm.
  • There will be NO market scheduled for two weeks around the Sturgis Motorcycle Rally.

Winter Season (October-April)

  • The market will be held on the 2nd & 4th Saturdays of each month from 9 am to 1 pm.
  • For the Christmas holiday season (Thanksgiving-Christmas), markets will be scheduled on all Saturdays from 9 am to 1 pm.
  • For the month of January, the market will be held on the 3rd and 5th Saturdays from 9 am to 1 pm, to allow for an “after Christmas break."

Vendor Fee


  • $50 flat fee for an entire season (summer or winter)
  • The $50 one-time seasonal fee covers all eligible market dates for that entire season (summer or winter)
  • No partial season rate at this time

What You Can Sell


Product Requirements


  • Locally Made or Grown: All items must be locally produced or clearly represent the region.

If you’re unsure whether your product qualifies, please contact the market managers to discuss eligibility.

Allowed Products


Agricultural Products

  • Fresh vegetables, fruits, herbs, and mushrooms
  • Cut flowers and live plants
  • Eggs, honey, and maple syrup
  • Meat and poultry (must be processed and packaged following state and federal regulations)
  • Grains, beans, and seeds

Prepared and Packaged Foods

  • Home-baked goods (breads, cookies, muffins, pies, etc.)
  • Canned goods such as jams, jellies, pickles, and sauces (in compliance with South Dakota Cottage Food Law or other applicable laws)
  • Dry mixes (spice blends, baking mixes, teas, etc.)
  • Fermented products (kombucha, sauerkraut, kimchi, etc.)
  • Beverages (non-alcoholic only unless licensed appropriately)

Ready-to-Eat Foods

  • Prepared meals or snacks to be consumed on-site (e.g., sandwiches, soups, smoothies, tacos, etc.)
  • Food trucks or mobile kitchens are permitted with prior approval and appropriate licensing

Handmade Artisan & Craft Items

  • Woodworking, pottery, leather goods, textiles, sewn or knitted items
  • Home décor items, candles, soaps, and bath/body products
  • Jewelry, metalwork, and handmade accessories

Prohibited Products


  • Mass-produced commercial or imported goods
  • Items unrelated to food, farming, gardening, homesteading, or handmade crafts
  • Weapons or items deemed inappropriate by market organizers

Reselling Products from a Different Producer


  • Resold items should reflect the spirit of local, handmade, or small-batch production.
  • The original producer of the product is aware of and approves of the resale of each product. We encourage reselling vendors to collaborate with their producers.
  • The origin of the product must be clearly labeled. At a minimum, labeling MUST include the producer's name and location. Optionally, we encourage additional labeling that includes the producer’s branding (e.g., logo, colors, etc.) and the producer’s story.
  • Vendors are responsible for verifying the quality and source of any resold products.

Vendor Booth Setup & Conduct


Arrival & Setup

  • Vendors can begin setup as early as two hours before the market start time. 
  • Vendors must be set up by the market start time.

Departure & Teardown

  • Vendors can begin teardown no earlier than the market end time. No early departures, please.

Booth Space & Signage

  • Spaces will be assigned by market managers.
  • Vendors are responsible for their own tables, tents, etc.
  • Each booth must have signage that clearly identifies the vendor's name and contact information. 
  • When the market is held outside during the summer season, the use of vendor tents is strongly recommended. This is a form of marketing that allows potential customers passing by to identify this as a market.

Cleanliness

  • Each vendor is responsible for maintaining a tidy area during and after the market.

Conduct

  • All vendors are expected to behave professionally and courteously toward customers, fellow vendors, and organizers.

Product Pricing


  • Vendors set their own prices.
  • The price of each product should be clearly posted.

Food Safety & Licensing


  • Vendors must comply with all applicable South Dakota food safety laws and regulations.
  • Vendors selling prepared foods (baked goods, canned goods, etc.) are required to follow South Dakota Cottage Food Law rules or hold a commercial license if applicable.
  • If refrigeration is required for any product, vendors must provide their own method.

Sales Tax


  • Vendors are responsible for collecting their own payments and reporting any applicable sales tax (6.2% in Sturgis) to the SD Department of Revenue.
  • Vendors must provide evidence of a South Dakota Tax ID on the Vendor Application Form. If a vendor does not have a Tax ID, the market managers can provide a Special Event Return form to the vendor.

Insurance & Liability


  • Vendors are individually responsible for their products and personal liability.
  • Vendors must provide the name of their vendor insurance company on the Vendor Application Form.
  • Vendors must provide evidence of appropriate insurance to the market managers. This generally includes a photo of their insurance policy certificate, including the insurance company, the vendor’s name, the insurance policy number, and the valid dates.
  • Vendors must sign and submit a Venue Liability Waiver form to the market managers.
  • The Sturgis Gathering Market, Bear Butte Gardens, BrewBerry Bistro, Massa Berry Building, and affiliated organizers are not responsible for lost, stolen, or damaged goods or equipment.

Weather & Cancellations


  • The market is open rain or shine, except in severe weather (lightning, high winds, etc.).
  • Cancellations will be announced by organizers via email and/or text as soon as possible.

Music & Education


  • Live music will be featured whenever possible.
  • Short educational presentations (e.g., cooking demos, gardening tips, craft lessons) are welcome — vendors or community members may inquire to participate.

Policy Updates & Management Rights


  • Rules are subject to change as the market grows and evolves.
  • Market managers reserve the right to deny participation to vendors who violate the rules.
  • Market managers reserve the right to approve or disapprove specific products.
  • Market managers reserve the right to make decisions in the best interest of the market and community.
