We are excited to welcome back Dan Alsup as our featured musician at this week’s Sturgis Gathering Market!

Dan previously performed for the market on July 25th, and we are thrilled to have him return to share his music once again. His heartfelt performance and engaging style created a wonderful atmosphere for shoppers and vendors alike, and we look forward to enjoying his music at the market this Friday.

Calling All Local Musicians, Performers & Entertainers!


Do you love sharing your music or talent with the community? We’d love to have you be part of the Sturgis Gathering Market! Each Friday this summer, we’ll feature live performances that create a fun, welcoming vibe for market-goers of all ages.

Whether you’re a solo artist, band, acoustic act, storyteller, or performance artist, we welcome your energy and creativity!

What We’re Looking For


We’re especially interested in:

  • Local and regional musicians (folk, acoustic, bluegrass, singer-songwriters, etc.)
  • Family-friendly music and entertainment
  • Acoustic-style sets (sound system support may be limited)
  • Cultural or educational performances (e.g., fiddle playing, Native music, folk dance)
  • Interactive or “roaming” entertainers (jugglers, puppeteers, etc.)

Performance Details


  • Day: Fridays (July 11 – September 26, 2025) (No market August 1 or August 8)
  • Location: BrewBerry Bistro Parking Lot, Sturgis
  • Performance Time: 1–2 hour time slots between 4:00 PM and 7:00 PM
  • Compensation: Small stipend and/or vendor perks (details to be discussed)
  • Setup: Performers must bring instruments and any needed gear

Friday, August 22 - Dave Koch


We were delighted to welcome Dave Koch back to the Sturgis Gathering Market for last week’s performance. Dave first joined us at our very first market in July, and it was a real treat to have him return.

His music once again brought wonderful energy and created a lively, welcoming atmosphere for shoppers and vendors. We’re grateful for Dave’s talent and generosity in sharing his music with our market community.

Friday, August 15 - Jim Thompson


Cowboy Poetry

Jim Thompson is a familiar and respected name in Sturgis. He currently serves on the Sturgis City Council representing Ward 3, and is a former South Dakota State Senator. His impressive broadcasting career spans both radio and television, earning him the title of South Dakota Sportscaster of the Year three times. Jim is also a renowned rodeo announcer, having worked at many major rodeo events, including the National Finals Rodeo.

Deeply rooted in our community, Jim serves on several local committees and boards, including the Sturgis Economic Development Corporation and the Hotel Business Improvement District Board. His achievements have been recognized nationally—he was nominated for the National Rodeo Hall of Fame in April 2025 and was inducted into the North Dakota Cowboy Hall of Fame in June 2025.

Friday, July 25th - Dan Alsup


Dan has been a beloved figure in the northern Black Hills music scene for many years. He was a longtime member of the popular local band Exit 32 and has continued sharing his talents as a solo performer throughout the region.

In addition to his musical contributions, Dan is deeply engaged with the Sturgis community and has played an active role in supporting local arts, including his work with the Sturgis Center for the Arts.

Friday, July 18th - Ethan Smith


Ethan is a talented local singer-songwriter based right here in Sturgis, South Dakota. You might remember him as the frontman of the regional favorite band, Ethan Smith and the Dirt Road Rebellion — known for their authentic, high-energy rock and metal.

Now performing solo, Ethan brings heartfelt original music and acoustic renditions of familiar favorites. Whether you’re browsing fresh produce, enjoying a meal, or just relaxing with friends, Ethan’s music will add the perfect soundtrack to your market experience.
